The Financial Services Fellowship (FSF), now in its 16th year and made possible by Reed Trustee Jane Buchan, is an intensive exploration for sophomores with interest in financial power structures. Fellows will be exposed to a wide range of workplaces related to the financial services sector, and gain insight into the inner workings of a myriad of culturally and systemically influential institutions. Participants will take part in a hands-on, immersive Spring break trip to New York City, accompanied by preparatory sessions beforehand and reflection afterwards. During the program, fellows engage directly with diverse financial sector workplaces: hedge funds, trading desks, investment analysis firms, regulatory bodies, journalism outlets, and more; gaining first hand understanding of how influential institutions operate. The fellowship is designed for students who are curious, committed, and eager to explore the financial services industry and beyond. Applications are encouraged from students of all majors who are inquisitive and ready to engage directly with these influential industries.
The Financial Services Fellowship funds:
- Cost of flight and other travel expenses from Portland to New York
- Business dinners and site visits
- Cost of lodging
- A limited stipend to purchase professional wear
This fellowship involves significant walking throughout Manhattan (including Wall Street and other areas), and the program’s schedule is rigorous. Before applying, consider whether this design meets your needs and if you’ll be able to participate fully. If you'd like to discuss whether this trip is a good fit for you, please contact CLBR at clbrfellowships@reed.edu.
